A Columbus man has been arrested and charged with attempt to commit rape.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department arrested Emmit Scott Rice Jr., 50, of 389 Long Drive, at a residence on Taylor Street last Saturday. CPD officials, in a press release, stated officers arrived at the residence and found Rice physically assaulting a woman who lived there. Rice also allegedly attempted to sexually assault the victim.
Rice was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle before being booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Facility. Police captain Brent Swann declined to say how he was injured.
Municipal court judge Gary Goodwin set Rice’s bond at $20,000.
