Mississippi University for Women has been named among the top universities to pursue a master’s degree by Washington Monthly magazine for the fourth consecutive year.
This year, MUW came in at number 51 on the list.
“This is a remarkable recognition for The W,” MUW president Jim Borsig said in a release. “I’m delighted to see our student’s accomplishments, along with the good work of our faculty and staff recognized nationally.”
The Washington Monthly list distinguishes itself from others by taking into consideration the effect universities have on their communities. Schools earn points for facilitating social mobility, which is measured by the number of low-income students who graduate from the school; research, by determining how many doctorate programs the school offers; and service — MUW officials say students logged 250 service hour in their first week back on campus. MUW students, faculty and staff have completed nearly one million community service hours since 2011.
The W was first named to the Washington Monthly list in 2010.
