Lastly, at Mississippi State University, the new Veterans Business Outreach Center will have its grand opening Friday. The center provides counseling, training and other resources to former service members seeking to launch commercial operations. Mark Scott, the center’s director and an Army veteran, said that while the VBOC will not provide grants or other funding sources, its staff will help clients in every way possible.
“Our mission is to aid the veteran who is transitioning out of the service…there’s more to opening a business than hanging up a shingle and opening your doors,” Scott said in a statement. “There are considerations like employees, taxes, insurance and many other things. We provide a lot of free resources to these veterans that can help them through the process.”
Throughout the next three years, the U.S. Small Business Administration will provide $825,000 to fund the center, which is designated to serve residents of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Tennessee.
The grand opening will take place at 11 a.m. at the VBOC offices inside the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Park. U.S. Congressmen Trent Kelly and Gregg Harper, among others, will take part in the opening.
The center’s phone number is 662-325-4990.
