John Correnti, a long-time steel industry executive who helped bring a mill to Lowndes County, died Tuesday in Chicago.
He was 68.
Arkansas Online reported that the cause of death was not immediately known. Correnti was in Chicago to attend a board meeting of Navistar International Corp., where he was a director, at the time of his death, the newspaper reported.
Charlie Dastych with the DuPage County coroners office in Illinois told the Blytheville Courier News on Tuesday that his office is investigating Correnti’s death.
Correnti had 40-plus years of experience in the steel industry. His career began in 1969 with U.S. Steel, where he served in construction management activities until 1980, according to a Bloomberg News report.
Ten years ago, he founded Severstal Columbus. That business was sold last year to Steel Dynamics.
At the time of his death he was CEO of Big River Steel in Arkansas. Big River Steel is constructing a $1.3 billion mill in Osceola, Arkansas. The mill is scheduled to come online next summer, according to Recycling Today.
