The wife and mother-in-law of a missing New Hope man are expected to be formally charged Monday in connection to the case.
Investigators with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department say Christina Martinez Vasquez, 37, and Lydia Martinez are in custody in connection to a possible homicide.
Manuel Vasquez, 40, of 155 Windchase Dr., was reported missing July 13. Family said he had not been seen since June 24.
Last week, human remains were found in his home’s yard. Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said the remains — which appear to have been burned inside a container — have not officially been declared to be Vasquez.
Christina Vasquez is the wife of Manuel Vasquez. Lydia Martinez is his mother-in-law. The pair have been arrested in connection to the case.
On Wednesday, while authorities from LCSO and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation were at Vasquez’s residence, a Dispatch photographer saw a man being escorted from the home in handcuffs.
Lowndes County Sheriff Mike Arledge on Saturday declined to release the man’s name but said he had not been arrested.
“We’ve still got a long way to go with this investigation,” the sheriff said.
