OCH Regional Medical Center auxiliary member Vivian Harris was named 2014-2015 volunteer of the year at a recent luncheon honoring auxiliary members. Harris was selected by a committee of her peers and chosen out of a group of 80 people.
“It brought tears to my eyes when they announced me as ‘Volunteer of the Year.’ I don’t do this to be recognized. I do it because I love the Lord and love people, but I’m grateful that someone saw the good in what I was doing,” Harris said. “I want to thank all of the members who felt that I was worthy to be selected for this honor.”
“Mrs. Harris has the heart of a servant and truly wants to help but expects nothing in return. She has a contagious smile, and we are so fortunate that she has chosen to donate her time to OCH and the people it serves,” said OCH volunteer services coordinator Lauren Gardner.
Harris began volunteering at the medical center in 2006 after her neighbor and auxiliary member, Rosita Williams, encouraged her to join. For the past nine years, Harris has been greeting visitors and patients at the front desk in the main lobby. Harris is married to Walter Harris and has three children; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Harris attends Bethel MB Church, and is a member of AARP and actively participates in OCTSHHS.
