LAMAR COUNTY, Ala. — A Lamar County grand jury has indicted a Vernon man with two counts of capital murder in the disappearance of Keisha Nicole Sykes.
Brandon Dewayne Sykes was indicted Wednesday by a special called session of the grand jury in the presumed death of his ex-wife. Keisha Sykes disappeared February 19, 2015.
Her body remains unfound. Her vehicle was discovered abandoned in Lowndes County this year.
Brandon Sykes faces two counts of capital murder, one in the process of committing first degree burglary and one in the process of first degree kidnapping. If convicted, he faces life in prison or the death penalty.
Chris McCool, district attorney for the 24th Judicial Circuit in Alabama, said the evidence for the charges came from a joint effort from the Vernon Police Department, the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Brandon Sykes is being held in Pickens County Jail.
Circuit Judge James Moore Jr. has denied him bond.
