Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center recently changed its name to Merit Health Gilmore Memorial and becomes one of the newest members of the state’s largest health network by number of facilities. Merit Health consists of 12 hospitals across Mississippi affiliated with Community Health Systems. The network has approximately 2,300 licensed beds, 2,500 physicians on the combined active medical staffs, and 7,000 employees, and more than 53,000 admissions and 300,000 emergency department visits each year. Through their affiliation with Merit Health, hospitals will be able to use the network’s size and shared resources to exchange best clinical practices, operate more efficiently, expand services, and improve access to care.
“When the original hospital, Gilmore Sanitarium, officially opened in 1916, it was the first modern medical center in northeast Mississippi. Today, we are proud to be a part of a system that is delivering quality care across our state,” said CEO, J. Allen Tyra. “We have always had a commitment to advancing the practice of modern medicine. Together, we are expanding into the next century transforming health care in Mississippi.” All programs, services and employed physician practices of these hospitals will also become part of the Merit Health family. Merit Health Gilmore Memorial invites all members of our community to a public reception with refreshments on June 2 from 10 -11 a.m. in the Women’s Center lobby.
