COLUMBUS — Someone hit a man so hard with a beer bottle early Sunday that the victim believed he had been shot.
About 1:53 a.m., officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to a call from a man at the Donut Factory on Highway 45 North who claimed to have been shot. When authorities arrived, they found the victim had apparently been hit with a beer bottle instead, Capt. Brent Swan told The Dispatch this morning.
The victim and suspect had been in a verbal confrontation at the Quality Inn on Highway 45 North, where the suspect hit the victim with a beer bottle, according to Swan.
The victim, who authorities did not identify, was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with a laceration on his back.
The suspect was known to the victim, Swan said.
Swan indicated no charges are expected in the case.
