The men and women that brought C Spire’s $20.3 million data center from a concept to a finished product in Starkville received a major award for their combined efforts.
The project won an Eagle Award in the $10 million to $25 million category of the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Excellence in Construction Awards, Dale Partners Architects announced Thursday.
Dale Partners, in association with Piper O’Brien Herr Architects, provided full architectural services for the project, while Brassfield & Gorrie served as contractors.
The project also received an award this spring in a new productivity category that recognized only three nationwide projects.
“Dale Partners’ architectural team consistently demonstrated expert knowledge, customer focus and professionalism in designing our new, advanced technology facility,” said C Spire chief operating officer Kevin Hankins in a release. “This is a well-deserved recognition for their efforts.”
C Spire’s 23,800-square-foot, Tier 3-plus data center opened last fall. It is one of only 52 Tier 3 or 4 U.S. data centers rated by the Uptime Institute.
Unveiled in 2013 by economic developers and corporate representatives, the facility offers colocation, cloud-based computing, disaster recover, data storage and enterprise solutions.
Hankins previously told The Dispatch C Spire chose Starkville for the investment due to the area’s lower natural disaster risk compared to other possible Mississippi sites, multiple electricity sources at the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park and the economic development incentives procured by the Golden Triangle Development LINK.
Both Starkville aldermen and Oktibbeha County supervisors approved 10-year tax abatements to help land the development. Ad valorem taxes will be waived under the agreements, but school taxes remain due. Officials previously anticipated the upcoming Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District will receive about $225,000 from the development.
