A 33-year-old Lowndes County man may have died from a spice overdose Monday, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
The man — who authorities declined to identify — was picked up from a friend’s house on Sunday and taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where he died Monday.
An autopsy will be performed in Jackson today, according to Merchant.
Merchant said though he can’t confirm cause of death until after the autopsy, it may have been spice-related.
This death comes at the same time that Hancock County sheriff’s deputies on the Mississippi Gulf Coast are warning the public about a dangerous batch of spice that surfaced in the state last week killing two users and sending several others to the hospital.
Spice kills faster than any other drug, according to Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam, who called spice the “most dangerous” drug he’s ever seen.
Another spice incident in the Bayside community led to the hospitalization of Henry Farve early last week after deputies discovered Farve in his car after it veered off the road.
During a news conference on Monday, Hancock County officials emphasized the dangers of spice, a synthetic psychoactive compound containing various chemicals and substances, according to an article in The Sun Herald.
