PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. — A school district is working to move on after losing a long-term employee in a bus accident that left several students injured.
Sharon Hood was driving a school bus with 14 students from Reform Elementary School and Pickens County High School Friday afternoon when the bus struck an SUV. Hood died of her injuries Saturday.
Three students in the accident required overnight stays at local hospitals, according to a Pickens County Schools press release Monday. One student remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham.
Pickens County Schools have assigned a veteran bus driver to take over for Hood. Counselors and local pastors have been made available to students at both schools. Counselors have also rode the bus route with students. The district has extended these counseling services to other bus drivers, the release said.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Hood’s family and are expected to be announced soon.
