A Mississippi State University search committee charged with finding the school’s next vice president for student affairs announced four finalists will be interviewed this month.
The finalists are: Douglas A. Hallenbeck, associated vice president for student affairs and executive director of university housing and dining at Clemson University; Regina Y. Hyatt, dean of students and associate vice president for student affairs at the University of Alabama in Huntsville; Mary Jane “Gigi” S. Secuban, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign associate vice chancellor for student affairs and director of the office of inclusion and intercultural relations; and University of Notre Dame Associate Vice President for Student Services William Bradford Stackman.
On-campus interviews are scheduled during the weeks of April 13 and 20, and finalists will participate in open forums and public question-and-answer sessions.
The MSU position opened in the summer of 2014 when Bill Kibler took over as president of Sul Ross State University in Texas. He served as vice president for student affairs for 10 years, presiding during a time of growing enrollment.
“There has been great interest shown in this position by candidates from some of the top universities across the nation, and we’re delighted with this very impressive group of finalists,” said MSU Provost and Executive Vice President Jerry Gilbert in a release.
He also chaired the university’s search committee that selected the four finalists.
“We anticipate giving them the chance to discuss student affairs issues with an array of campus constituents in the next two weeks, and I hope the university community will be involved as we shape the future of MSU student life,” Gilbert added.
The vice president for student affairs serves as a member of President Mark Keenum’s cabinet and leads the division of student affairs. Areas that report to the student affairs vice president include the dean of students, health services, assessment and testing services, housing and residence life, the bookstore and the student honor code office.
