STARKVILLE — Starkville police arrested 34-year-old Demetric Hall on Wednesday on suspicion of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute.
Officers responded to a disturbance at 200 Catherine St., Apt. 8B, and arrested Hall for disturbing the peace. Upon arriving at Oktibbeha County Jail, police determined Hall attempted to hide 28 individually wrapped bags of marijuana in the arresting officer’s patrol car.
Police Chief Frank Nichols said officers are required to search their patrol units at the beginning of their shifts, as well as after they take a suspect to jail or to the police department. He said officers must also search suspects before placing them in patrol units.
“It happens a lot where people try to hide things in police cars,” Nichols said. “That’s why our officers are required to do those searches. As to why the officer didn’t find the marijuana before (placing Hall in the car), my understanding is that the suspect had it in his undewear. And, of course, we don’t do strip searches.”
Hall’s bond is set at $10,000.
