A 41-year-old man is dead after being found shot in a vehicle parked in front of a Holly Hills home in Columbus early Saturday.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department found Carl Junior Miller inside of a vehicle parked in the 2600 block of Puckett Parkway shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities say.
Miller was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where he was pronounced dead.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, contacted by The Dispatch on Saturday afternoon, said an autopsy will take place early this week. He declined to give a cause of death until after the autopsy.
Authorities declined to offer details of the shooting but “investigators are treating this shooting as a homicide,” a CPD press release stated.
A “person of interest” was taken into custody Saturday, according to CPD. Authorities declined to release the person’s name.
Police were initially called the scene at approximately 2:28 a.m. Saturday to investigate a shooting.
More information is expected to be released Monday.
