The trial of a Winona man accused of robbing a bank in downtown Columbus has been continued.
The district attorney’s office said Wednesday the trial has now been set for next term, which begins in May.
Ashby Barton is accused of robbing Renasant Bank on Feb. 9, 2014. Barton was 24 at the time of the alleged incident.
Columbus police say that after entering the bank, he handed a teller a note demanding money. He was unarmed. Authorities have declined to say how much cash he left with.
He surrendered to authorities at Cade Hill Counseling Services on Main Street, where he had checked in earlier in the week. Authorities say he later tried to escape.
He faces two felonies: robbery and escape.
