A Columbus man is facing three felony charges for his alleged role in a Wednesday morning robbery at a Military Road convenience store.
Authorities formally charged Autravious Tiyon Gaston, 33, of 723 Waterworks Road, with armed robbery, kidnapping and felony taking of a motor vehicle on Thursday.
Municipal Judge Marc Amos set Gaston’s collective bond at $1,010,000.
Gaston is charged with the armed robbery of Sprint Mart at approximately 4 a.m. Wednesday. Gaston kidnapped one of the Sprint Mart clerks and drove to West Point in a stolen 2005 gold Grand Marquis, according to a statement from Columbus Police Department Capt. Brent Swan. Gaston and the clerk did not know one another, according to authorities.
Swan said the clerk was found at a Sprint Mart in West Point by officers with West Point Police Department.
The owner of the Grand Marquis tipped authorities off to Gaston. The owner listed Gaston as a prime suspect in the auto theft, according to authorities.
CPD investigators worked with WPPD and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department to search for the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle at Town Creek Apartments in West Point. Gaston was found in an apartment there and arrested without incident around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Gaston’s next court date has not been set.
