The Columbus Police Department has taken a person of interest into custody in the investigation of a robbery and kidnapping at a local convenience store Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at about 4 a.m. Wednesday at the Sprint Mart at 2021 Military Road, according to CPD and convenience store manager Ashley Waddell. A male suspect took one of the store clerks hostage.
West Point police officers found the kidnapped clerk at a store in West Point, according to a statement from CPD Capt. Brent Swan.
At approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday, authorities identified a person of interest in West Point and took that person into custody.
Waddell told The Dispatch both clerks working at the time were female and both received medical check-ups at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle Wednesday. Neither was injured. She said it was undetermined if the suspect was armed, but all signs indicated that he was.
Authorities declined to release the name of the suspect by press time today.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Swan.
