WEST POINT — A Clay County highway will soon bear a new name in honor of a Mississippi legislator.
House Bill 1041 designates Highway 45 Alternate from the Monroe County line to its intersection with Highway 50 as the “Representative David Gibbs Memorial Highway.”
The Democratic lawmaker died Jan. 13, 2013 of cancer. He was 76 and had served in the state Legislature since 1993.
WTVA-TV reports the Mississippi Department of Transportation will have a dedication ceremony Friday at 3 p.m. at the West Point City Hall.
MDOT will erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway.
