COURTLAND — Authorities say they are still investigating the burning death of a woman in north Mississippi.
Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby tells The Clarion-Ledger that local, state and federal investigators are still working on the case. It’s been two months after 19-year-old Jessica Chambers was killed. Darby would not reveal what authorities have found.
District Attorney John Champion says investigators have checked 400 or 500 leads.
Chambers was found Dec. 6 near her burning car on a rural road outside Courtland. She was declared dead early Dec. 7 after being airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Authorities say she 98 percent of her body was burned.
