WEST POINT — West Point police are searching for a suspect following an armed robbery Tuesday morning at the Texaco Handy Mart on Hwy. 45 Alternate North.
Officers responded to the store at 6:30 a.m. and spoke with employees, who reported a black male had come into the store and demanded money, according to a police department press release. A store clerk said the man was wearing a black hoodie and jeans with a yellow bandana covering his face.
The clerk said the suspect only wanted the $20s and $10s from the register, and the man took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee. The only letter the clerk could see on the license plate was an “L,” the press release said.
Witnesses described the suspect as medium height and build.
Police said the Handy Mart has been the focus of two other robberies and an attempted robbery since late September. Two of those reports on Nov. 24 and 25 involved a knife.
In Tuesday’s incident, West Point police chief Tim Brinkley said detectives have questioned several suspects and he anticipates making an arrest soon.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call West Point police at 662-494-1244 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151.
