A compliance check conducted Wednesday by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshal Service shows the vast majority of convicted sex offenders in the county are living at their registered addresses.
The check was performed by the county’s Criminal Investigations Division, Narcotics Unit and U.S. Marshals. It checked on 80-plus registered sex offenders and found the vast majority were in compliance. Two offenders, found to be wanted in other states, are in the process of being extradited.
According to a statement released by Det. Tony Cooper with the sheriff’s department, those offenders who were found not to be living at their registered address will have warrants issued for their arrests.
