An education center being built in Washington, D.C., plans to put a face to each of the 58,286 soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.
But the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation is missing some photographs of the fallen — including roughly 300 from Mississippi and nearly 20 from the Golden Triangle. The VVMF is asking for the public’s help in locating photographs of the soldiers that will help complete an electronic “Wall of Faces” in the new education center, which will be built adjacent to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
The Faces Never Forgotten program is “an effort to put a face and a story to each name on The Wall…this program will ensure this vital piece of history will be remembered and honored by visitors from around the globe for generations,” according to the VVMF website.
The VVMF is in the midst of raising $85 million to construct and open the education center. Construction is slated to begin next year.
The gallery-in-progress of soldiers’ photographs can be viewed and searched at vvmf.org/wall-of-faces.
