Les Originals, which has been operating in downtown Columbus for more than a decade, is moving.
Laura Chalmers, the owner, said the alterations store is in the process of moving from 129 Fifth St. N. to 107 Fifth St. S. It will open in the new spot Jan. 7.
Why the move? Chalmers said she is expanding.
Her focus has always been alterations and custom sewing. She can do pillows, business suits, bridal gowns, leather, suede, jeans, curtains and other things. She can make pageant dresses, school items and customes. Chalmers is a retired teacher and for many years taught clothing and textiles. At her new location — it’s beside Cafe on Main — she will offer sewing classes.
The plan at this point is to be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday.
The number is 662-327-6655.
Staying downtown, it looks like Hidden Treasures Emporium has closed.
On Tuesday, the business at 409 Main St. appeared to be shutting down. The sign out front had been taken down. Some movers were milling around. Shane Lambert, an interior designer who opened the home decor store in February, could not be reached for comment.
Lastly, beginning next week, The Dispatch will begin offering fresh popcorn every Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. at our downtown office. Everyone is welcome. We want people in the community to come by — we’re at 516 Main Street — purchase a paper, get some complimentary popcorn and stay a bit. (If you don’t need a paper, you can buy a bag for 50 cents.)
Here’s the thing: We hope that in the new year you will come by, get a snack, chat up our staff, get to know us.
So come say hello, and eat some popcorn.
This column will resume being published on Thursdays next week.
