WEST POINT — The police department is investigating a Monday night shooting that left two men wounded.
The incident happened just before 11 p.m. at the Point Place Apartment complex on North Forest Street. Officers responding to an 911 call were approached by a man at the scene who said he had been shot. The man was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point. Soon after that, 911 officials informed police another man had arrived at the NMMC-West Point emergency room with a gunshot wound. Both men are expected to recover, according to the police department.
A preliminary police report found that both men had suffered their injuries in the Point Place Apartments incident. The names of the wounded men were not released. No suspects have been identified.
Point Place Apartments is a gated residential complex. The police are not saying if either party lives at the apartment complex or was visiting a residence in the area.
“This investigation is progressing rapidly and we expect to make arrests in this case very soon,” West Point Chief of Police Tim Brinkley said in a statement released Tuesday. “Evidence was collected at the scene and we’re processing that to piece together what happened.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151 or the West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244.
