A five-block section of 14th Ave. North will be closed Saturday through Dec. 23 as part of a major road and drainage project, the city has announced.
The closed section of the street lies between 23rd Street North and 27th Street North as Columbus Light and Water moves its water lines to accommodate the project, which will add a third lane to 14th Avenue North, while moving the current ditch roughly 20 feet south of its current location and widening the 1,700-foot ditch from 23rd Street to the rail line on the east side of the former Kerr-McGee plant.
“We’ve already started work on the ditch,” said Rick Mason, site manager on the project. “What Light and Water is doing is something that has to be done before we start work on the street itself.”
Mason said there was no set date on when the street would be closed again for those improvements.
“It’s something that we will notify the public about when that time comes,” he said.
The $755,394 project is funded by a matching grant from The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Columbus. The project is not expected to be completed until sometime this spring.
