Veteran rocker Jack White, known for fronting such bands as The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, will perform at Mississippi State University’s Humphrey Coliseum Jan. 27.
Advance student ticket sales began Wednesday at the Colvard Student Union, while public sales will begin noon on Dec. 12. Non-student offerings range from $65 for general admission, standing-room-only floor tickets and reserved floor seating to $40 and $30 for reserved lower and upper bowl seating, respectively.
January’s show will begin at 7 p.m.
On June 10, White released his second solo album, “Lazaretto”, which found critical and commercial success. The album itself broke the record for the largest vinyl sales, while its titular song was named Track of the Year by the British music tabloid NME.
The album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and sold about 138,000 copies by June 15. It peaked in the top 10 on numerous countries’ charts, including those in Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Germany, New Zealand, Portugal, Poland, Scotland, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
White’s 2012 solo album “Blunderbuss” also found similar critical and commercial success.
The singer and guitarist emerged within the world of popular music as half of the two-piece, blues-garage rock band The White Stripes. Along with drummer Meg White, the duo produced six albums, including “White Blood Cells,” “Elephant” and “Get Behind Me Satan,” and also penned hits like “Fell in Love with a Girl,” “Seven Nation Army” and “Icky Thump.”
The group officially dissolved in 2011, but not before White formed two new projects: The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
Through his associated acts and on his own, White won eight Grammy Awards out of 24 nominations, including Best Alternative Album (The White Stripes’ “Elephant” and “Get Behind Me Satan”), Best Rock Song (“Seven Nation Army” and “Icky Thump”) and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals (“Portland Oregon” with Loretta Lynn).
