Oktibbeha County deputies are investigating two recent shooting incidents that occurred near the Pointe at MSU apartments on Blackjack Road and ask residents to remain vigilant when traveling in the area.
Investigator Brett Watson confirmed no injuries were reported from either incident. Law enforcement agents are working to determine if either shootings are connected.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department first received a report of a shot fired into a second story apartment during the daylight hours of Oct. 25. The shot, Watson said, appeared to originate from a wooded area adjacent to the apartment complex, and law enforcement agents recovered a bullet from the scene.
Another shot was fired into the rear window of a car traveling near the apartment complex’s entrance Friday morning. Watson said deputies were close to recovering the bullet and would send it to the state crime lab in Jackson once it was recovered.
OCSD does not yet have a prime suspect in either incident, Watson said.
“We are pursuing every lead available right now, but our main concern is just reaching out to the public so that they are aware and pay attention to their surroundings. We don’t want to incite panic – this is just out of an abundance of caution,” he said. “If someone sees something suspicious in that area, we’re asking them to call the sheriff’s department immediately with any and all information.”
If you or anyone else has information about either of these shootings, call OCSD at (662) 323-2421 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
