A Columbus man was arrested earlier this week after officers found a machete in his pants.
Richard Bernard Anderson, 43, of 63 Mason Drive, was arrested Tuesday by officers with the Columbus Police Department. According to a media release from the department, Anderson and a crowd of people had gathered in the 1800 block of Seventh Avenue North shortly after a standoff at a nearby home. Officers made contact with Anderson and he was patted down for officer safety, the release said. A machete was found in his pants. Anderson is a convicted felon and is not allowed to be in possession of a weapon, according to law enforcement. He was arrested on scene.
He received a $5,000 bond. He is in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
