The first paving projects included in the $4.5 million Columbus street improvement project are under way.
Four paving projects are expected to continue throughout the week: 13th Avenue from Fourth Street South to Seventh Street South; 14th Avenue from Fifth Street to Seventh Street; Ninth Street from 15th Avenue South to 17th Avenue South; and Temple Cove to Temple Drive.
Those are the first of 61 street improvements that Falcon Contracting will perform after being awarded a $2.87 million bid for the work.
The $4.5 million budgeted for paving, sidewalk and drainage work is part of a $5 million bond issue approved by Columbus councilmen this summer. Bids for sidewalk and drainage work are slated to be opened next month. About $500,000 of the $5 million went toward legal, administrative, engineering and project managing fees.
