JACKSON — Baptist Memorial Healthcare is laying off workers at its Booneville and New Albany hospitals in Mississippi in cost reduction plan.
Overall, the Memphis-based hospital system is eliminating 112 jobs from its 15,000-person workforce.
Eleven workers will be laid off at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville and three at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. There were no cuts at Baptist Memorial Hospitals in Oxford, Southaven or Columbus.
At Booneville, seven jobs were eliminated with four employees being offered other positions. The other four people were employed at Baptist Medical Group’s Booneville Family Medicine Clinic, which the system has closed.
Along with the personnel changes, the 14-hospital system is reducing supply expenses, eliminating non-essential items and improving processes.
Baptist says most of the layoffs came in corporate services.
