Thai by Thai is moving to downtown Columbus.
Scott Carley, the restaurant’s owner, confirmed to The Dispatch on Wednesday that he has plans to move his business from its current Wilkins Wise Road location to 509 Main St., the old Columbus National Bank building.
Why? Carley said he simply likes the area’s energy. Also, he and his wife, Kannika Carley, the chef at Thai by Thai, live near downtown.
The couple opened the Thai cuisine eatery roughly a year ago.
The 4,500 square foot space the restaurant is moving into has been home to restaurants in the past, including Brown’s Downtown, Garabaldi’s Mexican Restaurant, CJ’s Pizza and Station 7 Bar & Grill. It has been vacant a little more than two years.
Scott Carley said no timeframe for the move is in place, though he believes Thai by Thai will be in its new location by the end of the year.
While we’re downtown, have you seen the scaffolding in front of Rae’s Jewelry along Fifth Street South in Columbus?
Pete Creekmore, who has had his business at the location since 2001, said updating the facade has been on his mind since last November. So he and his contractor came up with a plan and last week, work began. A new Rae’s Jewelry sign is going up, the stucco is being replaced with green tile and the old transom windows are being replaced.
Creekmore expects the project to be done within a month or so.
Lastly, there is a new advertising agency in the Golden Triangle.
Robbie Coblentz and Kathy Kenne have joined to form Tellos Creative. The business is based in Starkville.
Coblentz comes over from Broadcast Media Group, which still exists, and Kenne comes over from Quest Group, which also still exists in Birmingham.
“After years of collaborating on video production projects, we decided to pool our resources and form a new company,” Coblentz said. “Our two staffs have very complimentary skill sets which will enable us to better serve all our clients by offering them expanded capabilities.”
Kenne, along with Kirsten Shaw and Art Shirley, will bring graphic design, web development, public relations and event management to the new business. Coblentz and his staff, led by creative director Margaret Buell, will provide video production and photography. Kenne and Coblentz will serve as managing partners.
The new company’s clients include Airbus Helicopters Inc., Mississippi State University and Yokohama Tire Corporation, according to a press release.
Tellos Creative has seven employees in Starkville and one in Jackson.
