LAMAR — One man has died and another is in custody following a weekend dog attack in Benton County.
The sheriff’s office says David Glass was attacked by three pit bulls at about 1 a.m. Saturday. The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports Glass was found about four hours later and reportedly told Sheriff Arnie McMullen what happened before he died Sunday afternoon.
The attack happened at the intersection of Sexton Road and Highway 7 in Lamar. The unrestrained dogs, owned by Eric Hodges, were outside when the incident occurred.
Sheriff’s investigator David Murphy says Hodges was arrested on a charge of manslaughter by culpable negligence. Bond information was not immediately available. It was unknown if Hodges has an attorney.
An order also was issued for the dogs to be euthanized.
