Martin Truck & Tractor, in operation since 1933, has been sold.
H&R Agri-Power announced Tuesday that it acquired the Columbus farm equipment dealer located on Hwy. 182 East. The Hopkinsville, Ky.-based business also bought the Martin Truck & Tractor location in Aliceville, Ala. Upgrades and improvements are planned, but H&R Agri-Power officials say both locations will continue to carry the equipment lines they always have, including Case IH, New Holland, Kubota, Bush Hog, Rhino and others.
H&R Agri-Power, founded in 1959, now has 14 locations in the country. The company’s new Columbus dealership is its first in Mississippi.
Let’s go from tractors to beauty treatments.
Two licensed estheticians practicing in Columbus — Jacqueline DiCicco with Skin Care Center and Angel White with Simply E Medical Spa — took part in a workshop in Atanta last month led by Crickett Enos, a California waxologist known as “The Wax Chick.” The workshop focused on advanced eyebrow design and Brazilian waxing techniques.
DiCicco said eyebrow grooming for both men and women is an art. The proper shape and color for the brows, she said, is different for each person. As far as Brazilian waxes go, DiCicco said most of her clients do it for hygiene reasons or to reduce the number of ingrown hairs. The New York Times recently published a story about how the bare nether region look has faded a bit. DiCicco, however, has not noticed a dip in Golden Triangle clients.
There are roughly 10 businesses in Columbus that offer the procedure.
In restaurant news, another national chain has come to the Golden Triangle.
Beef ‘O’ Brady’s had its grand opening on Jan. 28 in Starkville. The neighborhood pub-style franchise with an eclectic menu and bar is located at 1275 Stark Rd. and owned by Donald Lee and Lamar Ware.
The first Beef ‘O’ Brady’s opened in Florida in 1985. There are more than 230 in the U.S. today. The Starkville version — where 90-inch high definition TVs show sporting events — opens at 11 a.m. everyday and is open late.
Lastly, an interesting new restaurant will open in Starkville’s Cotton District soon.
Commodore Bob’s Yacht Club will be a “gastropub offering a unique experience and menu options unlike other restaurants in the area,” according to a job listing posted on Craigslist last week. The Dan Camp family is behind the venture. It will be located in the old Oak and Steel Liquor Store building. The doors will be open by next month, according to The Starkville Daily News.
Although not yet open, Commodore Bob’s Yacht Club entered the Starkville Young Professionals Souper Bowl last weekend. The restaurant served a spicy pork and kale soup in the event and took first place.
