JACKSON — The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting the state’s first death from West Nile virus for 2013.
The death was reported in Montgomery County.
So far this year, six cases have been reported in Mississippi. They were in Madison, Forrest, Wayne, Lowndes and Montgomery counties. The Health Department only reports laboratory-confirmed cases to the public.
In 2012, Mississippi had 247 West Nile virus cases and five deaths. At this time last year, there were no reported deaths from it in Mississippi.
