Two Columbus men were arrested this weekend on methamphetamine charges.
Rickey Lamar Harrison, 56, and David Ray Keating, 37, were arrested Friday night after agents with the Lowndes County Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop near North Lehmberg Road.
After a brief pursuit, Harrison, the driver of the vehicle, pulled over in the Dutch Village Convenience Store parking lot on North Lehmberg Road. However, Harrison did not put the vehicle in park and it hit an officer’s vehicle as he was being removed from the vehicle. Agents then noticed Harrison allegedly had an undetermined amount of crystal meth in his mouth.
Approximately nine grams of methamphetamine was discovered in the vehicle. The seized meth has a street value of approximately $1,000.
Harrison was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Keating was also arrested and charged with attempt to possess or obtain methamphetamine. Both are currently in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting bond.
Harrison has been arrested by local law enforcement 14 times since 1999. His charges include a prior methamphetamine charge as well as five arrests for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Keating has been arrested by local law enforcement 10 times since 1999. His charges include aggravated assault with extreme indifference to life, aggravated assault on an officer with a weapon and simple assault with injuries.
