A 73-year-old Monroe County man drowned Friday after accidentally running his mower into a pond.
A witness said Thomas E. Rossi was cutting grass near his Amory home around 10 a.m. when he went into the water. The body was recovered from the pond an estimated 15 minutes later. Medics attempted to revive him and he was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he was declared dead at 11:46 a.m.
Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley ruled the death as an accidental drowning and said Rossi’s age and other medical conditions may have been factors in the incident.
