Columbus Mayor Robert Smith handily defeated challengers Glenn Lautzenhiser and Bo Jarrett to ensure his second full term in Tuesday’s general municipal election.
Smith received 3,580 votes. Lautzenhiser received 1,323, while Jarrett got 255. Smith received 69.37 percent of the vote.
Those numbers include absentee ballots. Results are unofficial until affidavit votes are counted, but Smith’s lead far exceeds that total.
Also winning a second term was Ward 2 councilman Joseph Mickens, who defeated Susan Mackay after 209 absentee votes were counted. Mackay led 346-344 before absentees, but Mickens wound up with a 529-367 win. Mickens’ win was his second straight over Mackay, whom he ousted from that post in 2009.
