The Lowndes County Board of Supervisors will name a replacement for George Swales on the Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors during Friday’s board meeting.
Swales resigned Aug. 15. He served as chairman of the CVB board from 2011-2012. Dewitt Hicks succeeded Swales as chairman.
The board received resumes from six applicants seeking the appointment.
“There are a lot of quality applicants for the position,” said CVB Executive Director Nancy Carpenter. “This is a very important position and we look forward to working with whomever the board appoints.”
Carpenter said the new appointee will be sworn in Monday at 3:45 p.m. before the CVB board’s regular September meeting.
The CVB board is composed of nine appointees — four are appointed by the Columbus City Council and four are appointed by the board of supervisors. One appointee is a joint appointment. Harvey Myrick is currently joint appointee.
Restaurant employee Bernard Buckhalter was the last appointment made to the board. He was re-appointed the board by the city council in July.
Swales served on the board for six years. The remaining county appointees are Rissa Lawrence, Bart Wise and Mark Castleberry. The city appointments are Hicks, Buckhalter, Nadia Dale and Whirllie Byrd.
