While the City of Starkville has started making waves across the state for its new energy efficiency methods, Columbus has begun its own process.
Chief Operations Officer David Armstrong said the city has hire an energy consulting firm to help control costs.
“The city council recently approved the hiring of Siemens of Jackson to conduct a study on how we can save money on electricity in all of our buildings,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong said the costs for the assessment will be offset by TVA.
“We received a couple of bids and accepted Siemens,” Armstrong said. “This will be a major energy efficiency study.”
The study is still in the contractual phase Armstrong said.
Chief Financial Officer Mike Bernsen said there is no set number the city pays in utilities and it fluctuates from department to department.
“We spend right above $20,000 a month on electricity and water,” Bernsen said.
