After eluding authorities in Pickens County, Ala., a Columbus man is behind bars, charged with failing to register as a sex offender. Brian Jeffrey Davis, 30, was arrested Thursday about 7:50 p.m.
Davis, who also is known as Bryan Davis, was convicted, in 2003, of attempted rape in North Carolina.
“(Davis) was arrested here in Lowndes County a few months ago,” said LCSO Det. Tony Cooper. “He registered here in Lowndes County, but then he started living in Ethelsville, (Ala.) and he wasn’t living where he was supposed to be staying.”
Cooper said Davis dodged and evaded officers with the Pickensville County Sheriff’s Department yesterday and he ended up in an unidentified hotel in Lowndes County. The arrest was made with assistance from the U.S. Marshals and the Columbus Police Department
Margaret Ann Elmore also was taken into custody and will face felony charges in both states for assisting Davis, Cooper said. Davis is still in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond and court date are pending. Cooper said Davis will likely be facing both felony and misdemeanor charges in Alabama, as well.
