Columbus doctors facing federal drug charges soon will have their respective days in court.
Dr. Mark Burtman and Dr. Michael White were the subjects of home and office raids by federal and local narcotic agents in June. Although the incidents occurred on the same day, the charges are not connected said White’s attorney, Rod Ray.
White, an anesthesiologist at The Weight Loss Clinic on Chubby Drive, is set for trial June 11 in U.S. District Court in Oxford. He is charged with eight counts of conspiracy to dispense a controlled substance and providing false information regarding sexual relations with a patient.
“We are set to go to trial June 11,” Ray said. “We are looking forward to proving that (White) is nothing but a good doctor.”
Burtman is scheduled to enter a guilty plea in U.S. District Court on May 24 on three charges of “criminal information” after waiving his indictment.
He maintained his innocence after the raids, which he described as a “gut-wrenching experience.”
“I really do not want to comment on this while the case is still open,” Burtman said. He is represented by Joe Studdard of Columbus.
Burtman was an obstetrician and gynecologist with the Urgent Care Clinic on Chubby Drive, when his offices and home were raided on June 21.
