The Lowndes County Board of Supervisors and other county officials this month are celebrating National County Government Month to highlight county government programs and services; the theme for this year’s celebration is healthy counties, healthy families.
Events, all of which are open to the public, include a 5k walk/run April 21 at the Riverwalk. Registration for the event is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and the event starts at 8:30 a.m.
And an annual cook-out will be held, April 27, in front of the Lowndes County Courthouse from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, on April 27, a health screening from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle will be held at 10 a.m. inside the courthouse, a Zumba fitness exhibition, sponsored by the YMCA, will be given at 11:30 a.m. and musical entertainment will be provided by Keith and Margie Brown, during the courthouse events.
“We are very proud of the essential services and programs our county provides each day and, especially, the people who deliver them,” said District 5 Supervisor Leroy Brooks, who coordinates the National County Government month events for Lowndes County. “National County Government Month is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at the county services and foster a greater understanding of the role and responsibility of county government.”
“County employees enjoy the celebration in April,” he added. “It provides them with the opportunity to showcase their work and enjoy the camaraderie of their peers.”
