The Columbus Planning Commission Monday unanimously approved a rezoning request and a permitted-use request.
Rhonda Jones asked to rezone property at 2502 5th Ave. N. from an R-1 single-family residential district to an R-2 two-family residential district.
Jones told the Commission she wanted to put two three-bedroom houses on the property, which earlier was occupied by “two dwellings.”
Building Official Kenny Wiegel confirmed two houses, which both were “demolished,” were on the 11,000-square-foot lot, prior to a tornado, which hit the area in 2002.
In another matter, Charles Clemmons asked to be allowed to use a portable building for an office and bathrooms on property at 1921 14th Ave. N.
Clemmons sought to put both men’s and women’s bathrooms in the 12-foot by 30-foot building, located next to Skeet’s restaurant and behind a car wash business.
The property is in a C-1 neighborhood commercial district.
