The Columbus Police Department is investigating a number of weekend burglaries.
Public Information Officer Glenda Buckhalter said officers responded to 1906 Old Aberdeen Road, regarding a burglary of a dwelling call on Friday at about 5 p.m.
“Upon arrival, the officer spoke with complainants Anna Brown and James Fannon,” Buckhalter said. “Fannon stated he was employed by Recovery House and managed the property. Fannon stated the only property of Recovery House missing was a Vizio 32″ flat screen LCD HD television, model number E320VL, taken from the living room of the home.”
On Saturday, at 08:18 a.m., an officer was dispatched to 418 10th St. S. in reference to a burglary of an auto complaint, made by Wade Leonard. About two hours later, officers were dispatched to 625 9th St. N. in reference to burglary of a vehicle.
“Upon arrival, the officer spoke with (Michael Foster), who stated his wife arrived home around 10:30 p.m and his vehicle was broken into,” Buckhalter said. “Several items were taken. An officer was later dispatched to 621 8th St. N., concerning a burglary of an auto. Once on scene, (the officer) spoke with Steve Rogers. He advised the officer that someone had gained entry into his 2000 White Chevy Cavalier by going through (an) unsecured passenger side door. (Rogers) said the only thing missing was a lockbox.”
Within the same time frame, an officer was dispatched to 423 3rd Ave. N. for a call about another burglary of a vehicle. And a burglary of an auto was reported Sunday at Atlas Towing, 618 Alabama St. It is not known if any items were reported stolen.
The burglaries continued Monday, when an officer was dispatched to 406 Warren St. to take a report on a burglary of a home.
“Upon arrival he spoke to Shertia Williams, who told him that when she arrived home that evening, she noticed that her window screen was messed up and her security door was unlocked, but her front door was still locked,” Buckhalter said. “(Shertia) told him that when she opened her door that evening, around 11:15 p.m., she saw her flat screen TV missing, so she closed the door and called 911.”
Also on Monday at about 4:45 p.m., an officer was dispatched to 602 Main St. to First United Methodist Church, in reference to a stolen utility trailer.
“The officer spoke to the complainant, Samuel Morris, who is the pastor of First United Methodist Church,” Buckhalter said. “He reported, sometime between Tuesday, March 27 and Saturday, someone stole a 2000 model 7’x16′ tandem axle enclosed utility trailer, white in color, from the church’s parking lot.”
The utility trailer was parked in the parking lot at the corner of Sixth Street South and Third Avenue South.
Police Chief Selvain McQueen urged citizens to use caution and be proactive to crime.
“People need to be sure and lock their doors to their homes and automobiles and not leave valuables in their automobiles,” McQueen said. “Please watch out for your neighbors and report any suspicious activity.”
