Starkville School District’s parent of the year Tamara Gibson is a tireless volunteer as PTA president at Starkville High School.
Tamara’s energy and enthusiasm match her dedication and determination. Because of Tamara’s efforts, PTA at Starkville High School is not only highly visible, it is also engaged in the daily life of high school.
SHS Principal Keith Fennell praised Tamara for her involvement and support.
“Tamara’s wonderful organizational abilities and her obvious love for our teachers and our students have made this year’s PTA the best I can recall ever working with at the high school level,” Fennell said.
This year Tamara organized an army of parent volunteers to help celebrate the academic success of our students with an Academic All-Star Social honoring almost 700 students. Many of those same volunteers “treated” the entire SHS faculty and staff during the Christmas season with a trip to Santa’s Sweet Shoppe, set up in the conference room featuring only home-made goodies for them to take home and enjoy. Tamara also coordinated a special recognition for SHS’ counselors during National School Counseling Week.
“In each endeavor, Tamara has affirmed to all of us that we are a family at SHS. She embodies the epitome of what it means to build relationships, and she has modeled for all of us the powerful impact those relationships have on the educational community,” Fennell added of Tamara’s efforts.
In addition to serving as PTA president at SHS, Tamara is also the web coordinator for the SSD PTA Executive Council.
Tamara’s daughter, Leah, is a junior at Starkville High School, and her son, Bryce, is a kindergartner at Sudduth Elementary School. She is married to Kelvin Gibson.
SSD also congratulates the following parents of the year at each school:
n Jennifer Davis, Sudduth Elementary School
n Jamila Taylor, Ward Stewart Elementary School
n Leslie Fye, Henderson School
n Jenny Turner, Armstrong Middle School
n Aubrey Mitchell, Millsaps Career and Technical Center
