Starkville police Wednesday made a pair of arrests for weekend car burglaries around University Drive, near the Mississippi State University campus.
Diquoreius Tate, 18, of 105 Zuber St., in Starkville and a juvenile male were arrested on burglary charges. About 2 a.m. Saturday, police stopped and questioned both suspects, who had GPS units, an iPod and a radar detector with them. The items were reported stolen Sunday and an arrest warrant was issued.
As many as four vehicles may have been burglarized, said Starkville Police Detective Kenny Watkins, noting other reports could come in, when students return from Spring Break.
“Of the autos we know about, all burglaries were on unlocked cars,” Watkins said. “It goes to emphasize how important it is for everyone to keep their vehicles locked and secured. An unlocked car is an inviting target.”
Tate is being held on a $10,000 bond. The juvenile was processed and released to his parents and awaits a court date at Juvenile Court.
Anyone with knowledge of the burglaries is asked to call the Starkville Police Department at (662) 323-4135.
