The Columbus Municipal School District will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss the ongoing search for a superintendent.
Board members received nine candidate resumes last week during a meeting with the Mississippi School Boards Association, which is handling the search for the district.
MSBA Executive Director Mike Waldrop and consultant Harold Fischer gave an in-depth analysis, along with background information, on each candidate.
Board President Glenn Lautzenhiser said he and the other board members have spent the past week reviewing the resumes and will determine the next step in the search process tonight.
Approximately 10 people applied for the position, but one candidate withdrew Feb. 10 in order to take a position with another district.
Of the applicants, one is currently a superintendent, one is an interim superintendent, three are former superintendents, one is a school principal, two are consultants and one is a director of pupil services.
Seven of the applicants have doctorate degrees. Four are from Mississippi, one is from Indiana, one is from Oklahoma, one is from Massachusetts, one is from Michigan and one is from Wisconsin.
The board will also discuss personnel issues, Lautzenhiser said.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at Brandon Central Services, located at 2630 McArthur Drive.
