Charges were dropped Thursday against a 17-year-old arrested for shooting another teenager on December 29, 2011.
Brandon Perry, of 419 Sixth St. S., was charged with aggravated assault with extreme indifference to life for the incident, which involved an unnamed teen. The Columbus Municipal Court dismissed the case without prejudice, which means a new case could be brought to trial on the same basis.
According to Columbus police reports, the shooting occurred near Moss Street and involved an argument about a girl.
An officer found the injured teen in the parking lot of Sanderson Plumbing, at Seventh Avenue and 22nd Street North near the train tracks. He was taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. He was later released and was not charged with any wrongdoing in the incident.
Police put Sanderson Plumbing on lockdown for a little over an hour as dogs swept the area and both Columbus police and Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies kept a lookout for the shooting suspect. Police later discovered Perry at his Southside Columbus home.
The wounded 17-year-old identified Perry as his shooter in a statement to police, according to Investigator L.C. Cockrell.
“We also located the gun in a ditch near Waterworks Road,” Cockrell said.
Police originally responded to a 911 call concerning two males with guns walking near the train tracks at Waterworks Road.
