A Starkville Police officer was injured Thursday while arresting a burglary suspect in the Cotton District.
Officer Christopher Kenard responded to a burglary call at 1:30 p.m. near Lummus Street when police spotted Willie James Young, 48, of 903.5 Louisville St. Lot No. 3, in the area carrying a laptop computer. Young resisted arrest, and in the struggle Kenard’s arm was broken, according to an SPD release.
Still, Kenard was able to subdue Young until officers arrived to assist him.
Kenard underwent surgery at OCH Regional Medical Center and received further treatment Thursday night.
Young is being held at Clay County Jail and is awaiting bond.
Young was out on $15,000 bond for three auto burglaries committed at Peter’s Rock Church at 223 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in July. The auto burglaries were committed while church was in session.
